Labor Day Weekend: Cars, Shows, and the Coffee That Keeps You Going
The Best Weekend of Car Show Season
If you are a car person, Labor Day weekend operates differently than it does for everyone else. While the rest of the country is doing end-of-summer cookouts and counting down to fall, you are looking at the calendar and thinking about which events are happening within driving distance and whether the car is ready to show or whether this is the year you finally just attend and scout.
Labor Day weekend has historically been one of the busiest weekends of the year for car shows, swap meets, and automotive events across the country. The weather is still cooperating, the summer crowds have thinned slightly, and there is a long weekend to work with. It is a good weekend to be a gearhead.
Where Gearhead Coffee Fits In
Our brand was not built in a marketing office. It was built at a race event, by people who understood what it meant to be standing in a pit area at five in the morning in the Baja desert with another fifteen hours of racing ahead of them, and with a very limited coffee situation. The company exists because someone decided that motorsports events and automotive culture deserved better fuel.
That philosophy shows up in how Gearhead Coffee approaches every event it is involved with. Our partnership with Racing America puts Gearhead coffee at a real racing series. Our relationship with Summit Racing gets it into the hands of the people who are actually there in person. The goal has always been to be the coffee that is present when the real automotive moments happen, not just in the marketing photos afterward.
How to Make the Most of a Car Show Weekend
Bring your own coffee. Most car show venues serve whatever is in the concession stand and the concession stand is not where your coffee decisions should live. Brewing a thermos of Big Block or 427 Stroker the night before and throwing it in the car means you start the morning the right way regardless of what the venue has on offer.
Get there early. The first hour of any car show is the best hour. The owners are still getting set up, the crowd has not arrived yet, and you can actually talk to people about their cars without shouting. This is when the real conversations happen.
If you are showing, do the details. The cars that stop foot traffic at shows are the ones where someone clearly cared about every inch. If your car has been sitting in the garage all week, give yourself an extra hour on Friday night. It is worth it.
And if you are spending the weekend in the garage instead of at a show, that is a completely valid Labor Day. Some of the best ones end up being about finally getting through that punch list that has been following you around all summer.
Fall Is Coming and So Is Car Show Season's Final Push
September and October are the tail end of outdoor show season in most parts of the country. After that, the big events move indoors or wait until spring. If there is a car show on your list that you have been meaning to get to this year, the next eight weeks are your window.
Gearhead Coffee will be at events this fall. Follow along on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to see where we show up. And if you bring Gearhead to your local Cars and Coffee show, tag us.
